I don't like Liefield's art as much as the next guy, but is a giant **** you really necessary? Yeah his work spawned some of this tripe. Though its not like this sorta stuff is shoved in our faces. I don't see Liefeild's art on buses or billboards or anything. He also a nice guy. With all the horrible people in the world does Liefield deserve that kind of attack just cause his art style was ostentatious. Anyway good review as always.
Hey TJ, absolutely applaud your respect for the armed forces & while I knew GI Joe was based on a real person, I had no idea that he was THAT amazing. Fortunately GI Joe Extreme never made it to England... though it's also unfortunate that the original series was renamed Action Force, losing it's tie to such a great American hero.
@munnypantz I think TJ's comments have to be taken with a touch of salt as his shows always have an element of humor to them. After all, he DID apologize the Micheal Bay... who'd do that if it wasn't a joke?
First off, Jem and the holograms, has already been done by Disney it's called Hannah Montana! The second thing is why haven't they given the actual military show to the man who will race usually do everything for it, if Michael Bay does not want to continue working on Transformers, gave him G.I. Joe! He will do it for free! And I'm not a fan of G.I. Joe, and I am depressed about this. At least do visionaries before Jem and the holograms!
@sean helfen@sean helfen The first thought I had when I heard about the Jem movie was "what about Visionaries", that was such a classic 80's show it's far more deserving of a movie.
What is up with Chu though? He abandons He-Man for GI Joe, then abandons GI Joe for Jem... is he just trying to earn points on his "I remember the 80's card"?
"Three suns aligned pour forth their light, come fill this archers bow with MIGHT!" :D
1) The script for GI Joe 3 is still being worked on so Chu has time to do Jem, he didn't abandon the project but he might be replaced anyway because, well, it's Hollywood.
2) Some of the 50th anniversary figures are new molds that were first shown in a concept case at Joe Con a few years ago, also repaints are like crack to a Joe fan; no worries.
The sad thing is, it may just be me, but I honestly think that the basic premise here is not too bad and there are elements that could work but only if its done well and not executed in a utter back handed manner.
War torn country is finally liberated only for a new invading, doesn't necessarily need to be Cobra, comes in to plunder it. Rag tag team of soldiers and mercenaries are brought together to protect the land and its people, having internal conflict at first as they'd have trouble trusting each other but ultimately culminates with them coming together as a team becoming the new G.I. Joe.
How do you screw this up?
But as it is this show fails because A) the execution and B) the bad luck coming out during the period it did, if this had maybe come out in the mid/late 90's it may have faired batter since it may have escaped Liefield-ian influenced. Guess we'll never know..
Wow, thanks for enlightening us! I never knew THAT was GI JOe's origin. Pretty epic!
And I also never knew Extreeeeme!!! was a cartoon too - most i knew of it were the toys, or rather, their KOs which to this day Chap Mei makes as random terrorists and soldiers. Man, Rob Liefeld, you are to blame for a LOT of what was wrong with the nineties. And Savage Dragon... that was a pointless show too.
Sigma 6 amazing? Ummm... I to this day never got it how "Real American Hero" could have been handed over to the Japanese to write and animate. And they messed it up, with anime cliches like everyone having their own mech or Snake Eyes and his ninja sidekick kids...

I never knew this existed till now... I am tempted to try and watch it on YouTube for S&G!
Not going to lie. I loved this fing show. It's so over the top it's great. I do have a couple figures as well.
In Canada:
Balistic was renamed Eagle Eye
Two things:
1) The script for GI Joe 3 is still being worked on so Chu has time to do Jem, he didn't abandon the project but he might be replaced anyway because, well, it's Hollywood.
2) Some of the 50th anniversary figures are new molds that were first shown in a concept case at Joe Con a few years ago, also repaints are like crack to a Joe fan; no worries.
then we had to wait till the early two thousands for the movies then sigma 6 which was an amazing series
Before this, I had no idea G.I. Joe Extreme existed. After this...I wish I could go back to being blissfully unaware.

To hell with GI Joe Extreme... why the hell has no one done a biography movie about Mitchell Paige?!?!
