I must have blocked it from my mind. I didn't even remember half the s***** errors in that thing! The only thing good about it was Galvatron's threat to Allegra!
TJ, I have one question you forgot to mention; you know in some shows or comics they may replace one character with another that is almost the same except with a few differences? I've debating with my friends that, despite the fact that Ultra Magnus turned into a truck, seemingly lead more missions into the war zones than Rodimus, Galvatron appearing to hate just as much, if not more so than Rodimus Prime - that he was not a kinda-sorta replacement for Optimus Prime.... was he(thinking of why the truck cab turned into a white Optimus from my G-1 Magnus......)?
Gah, Carnage in C-Minor. My brain has effectively blocked out this episode. It's the most concentrated example of everything wrong with the G1 show.

Well, there was the episode where the Decepticons found "proof" that they were the good guys. Maybe that proof was actually real, and the footage Spike found of Optimus being Starscream in a costume was photoshopped, and the Autobots really are evil! Or, I'm high. Your call.
trence5: More likely a marketing call. Magnus was the more expensive toy, so they pushed him as the field commander that season while Rodimus hung back more often. Story-wise it made sense, he had the experience that Rodimus lacked even as the chosen one, but beyond that they just wanted the bigger toy sold.
Wow what a mess of a show.. Strange that I have the Rhino Season 3 Boxed Set and watched it several times and do not remember this episode at all. Perhaps it was so bad my DVD player automatically skipped it, or was not included in my box set? Or my mind was so traumatized it has repressed all memories of... wait where am I?
Ya hit the nail on the head when it comes to the animation errors. You have to take the bad with the good. Just think, if Transformers wasn't so popular the work wouldn't have been rushed.
Excellent review, but I must disagree with you about season three being the one to introduce connected storylines. Season one had some surprisingly heavy continuity between episodes, especially the first six episodes. But other than that, I think you nailed it.
Good review. I knew this episode proficised the rise of Bayformers. Oh and Peter Cullen did some work doing voice overs for Toonami along side Steve bloom
Great review TJ. Being into animation, I have talk to people who worked on the show. The main problem the animators had was animating the robots on this show. Because all the robots are mostsly made of cubes. Hope that explains half the animation problems on Transformers G1.
a note, and I didnt read through all the above comments, The animation gets bad at certain scenes because of random lack of budget and use a different animation house. You can see this in other scenes like the clip you show towards the beginning where they all have very hard shadows, and they have a lot of extreme perspective shots. Big fan of your show though, especially your toy collection.
